Rättviseförmedlingen - Corporation of Justice

One post-party morning, Lina Thomsgård had had it. If it were true, as she was repeatedly told, that the reason there were no women in the panel of TV-debates, holding professorships and so forth, was that there were no qualified female applicants for these positions, she had the perfect solution.

What was to become one of the most celebrated initiatives in Swedish media so-far in 2010, started as a modest facebook group. After having made the group-page declaring "we help you find alternatives from underrepresented groups", Thomsgård went to have a tea. Coming back she had already found her first 200 "intermediaries"- i.e members of facebook who joined to contribute with suggestions for apt employees.


Since then, the "Corporation of Justice", has managed to employ people from underrepresented groups in a wide range of professions including zoologists, entomologist and researchers. The idea behind the"Corporation of Justice" is as simple as it is genius, if the real reason that people with certain attributes never make it in certain professions, is that employers simply can not find apt applicants from these groups (and not for instance sexism), then all these employers need is information..Information that can be provided by an agency collecting lists of qualified applicants and then making these accessible to employers, thereby lowering the information asymmetry and increasing the number of good matches. And if this "standard excuse" proves not to be true, well then the "Corporation of Justice" leaves no more room left for lame excuses..


The "Corporation of Justice" successfully makes use of an array of various social networking tools, sending out requests from employers and collecting and listing applicants. Bizarre as it might sound for an employer to fish for the next female expert in war-crimes using twitter, this project has proved a success in making a difference. A difference seemingly attractive as new branches of the "Corporation of Justice" are under construction in New York and London.
