Hi All,
I was poking around some German news sites and ran across this little piece on the Welfare System in Germany. It's from Deutsche Welle, admittedly not the most serious news program in the world, but still sparks the question of whether the current social regime in Germany is sustainable.
I find myself about to ask, "Well what is the obligation of the productive to support the unproductive?" but I think given the tone and audience of this blog I'd simply be inviting affirmation of the moral imperative for the poor. I'm looking to start a more focused consideration of "how much for how long and in what way" than a simple yes or no to social assistance.
The coterie of publishers here has always impressed me with their wide breadth of reading, and knowledge on alternative approaches to problems like these. What could be done differently?
