Going East

If you are interested in multivariate statistics, here is some cool stuff: Last Thursday, Danny Quah gave an LSE in house speech (sorry, Berliners) on the economic crisis and the shifts in global (im)balance, where he presented following animation:
Basically, this involves projecting the 3-dimensional coordinates onto a 2-dimensional surface and calculating the gravity of each city based on its economic activity. Strangely enough, Quah seems to have forgotten the South (including Australia and New Zealand).

While the technical aspect is very interesting, I don't know how to interpret this. Should we all learn Chinese now?
